From November 14 to 21, 2026, the European Union Film Festival returns to Jamaica. The initiative is organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Jamaica in collaboration with the diplomatic representations of twelve EU Member States based in Kingston. Screenings will take place at several local venues in Kingston and Montego Bay, featuring a selection of 13 films.

With the support of the Consulate General of Italy in Miami and the Italian Cultural Institute, in coordination with the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Kingston, Italy will participate in the festival with Gioia mia (2025), directed by filmmaker Margherita Spampinato. The screening is scheduled for November 21 at 8:30 PM at the S Hotel Kingston (St. Lucia Avenue, Kingston).

The film tells the story of Nico, a child who has grown up in a modern, hyperconnected world and is forced to spend the summer in Sicily with his elderly aunt Gela, a deeply religious woman who lives in an old palazzo far removed from technology. The encounter between two different worlds and generations gradually gives rise to an unexpected and profound bond.

The festival aims to promote awareness and appreciation of European cinema and to celebrate the cultural diversity of European Union countries through the art of filmmaking. All screenings are free of charge.
