The Italian Cultural Institute of Miami invites you to a chamber music concert, on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 PM in the event hall of the Steinway Piano Gallery, Coral Gables.

Performing on stage will be the Trio Hèrmes, a young and internationally acclaimed ensemble, as part of a short U.S. tour that will also take them to New York City, where they have been invited by the local Italian Cultural Institute for a series co-organized with Carnegie Hall.

On the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, this evening’s program has been designed to highlight the musical connections and exchanges between Italy and the United States throughout the 20th century. The audience will hear three rare compositions for trio by Ildebrando Pizzetti (1880–1968), Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895–1968), and Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990).

In this context, Pizzetti represents the Italian classical musical tradition revisited in a modern style; Castelnuovo-Tedesco is an Italian composer who emigrated to the United States, bringing this tradition with him and integrating it into the musical language of his new homeland; in the end, Bernstein is an American composer inspired by European models, with a marked preference for Italian lyricism. The result is a musical journey reflecting the interaction of different artistic currents: an Italy that migrates to America, and an America that shapes its identity through European heritage, reinterpreting it in new forms.

Trio Hèrmes is composed by Ginevra Bassetti (violin), Francesca Giglio (cello), and Greta Maria Lobefaro (piano). Since its founding, the Trio has studied repertoire under the guidance of the Trio di Parma and Pierpaolo Maurizzi at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito. They later continued their training at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and at the Accademia Walter Stauffer in the class of the Quartetto di Cremona.

The ensemble has won several prestigious competitions and received the Giovanna Maniezzo Prize 2024 at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. It has also been selected by the Fondazione Accademia Musicale Chigiana to take part in the project “Young Italian Musical Talents in the World,” an initiative established in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and CIDIM – Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica. The trio recently released a CD for Brilliant Classics, dedicated to Ildebrando Pizzetti’s music.
