In 2025, the Week of the Italian Language in the World reaches its twenty-fifth edition, dedicated to the topic Italophony: Language Beyond Borders. The purpose is to highlight how the Italian language transcends geographical boundaries, establishing itself as a cohesive force capable of putting together people, communities, and generations all over the world.

Our special guest at the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Miami will be Professor Alessandro Carrera — poet, writer, essayist, translator, and renowned scholar, currently Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of Houston, and editor-in-Chief of Gradiva. He is also widely known in Italy for his studies and Italian translations of Bob Dylan’s lyrics and prose.

The lecture, entitled Atlantic Routes. Poetry and Song between Italy and the United States, will take place at the IIC Miami and will explore Italian poetic production across the ocean: from twentieth-century poets who influenced American culture, to American poets inspired by Italy, and to Italian authors who found or refined their poetic voice in the United States.

The event will also offer an overview of the presence of Italian song in the United States, beyond the traditional operatic repertoire, highlighting its growing academic interest.
