Luca Vullo, communication expert, author and director of theatre shows, performer, motivational speaker, has devoted years to the analysis of nonverbal communication, particularly Italian gestures, considered not as a folkloric stereotype, but as an intangible heritage of Italian culture, an indisputable communication skill that can be studied and taught.
Vullo is well-known to RAI (Italian National television) audiences for his appearances on the program “Uno Mattina in Famiglia”, for which he narrated exclusively with gestures some of the opera arias that have made Italy famous throughout the world. He was chosen as testimonial for a communication campaign for the National Museum of Italian Emigration (MEI), based in Genoa. He has two TEDx Talks to his credit and has been touring for some time with the show La voce del corpo (The Body’s Voice), in which he recounts Italian gestures and compares them with those of other cultures, highlighting the infinite possibilities of communication and possible cross-cultural misunderstandings, while stressing the importance of nonverbal communication and emotions for all human beings.
Luca Vullo now arrives in Florida with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Miami, for a series of initiatives respectively in Boca Raton (Florida Atlantic University, April 7 at 7 p.m.), in Orlando with the University of Central Florida (April 9 at 7 p.m., with the show The Body’s Voice, Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, De Voos Family Room), closing with a conversation in Miami at the Institute’s headquarters (Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
In this last event, titled The Art of Italian Gestures, we will be able to listen to a general presentation of Luca Vullo’s work, accompanied by video excerpts from his shows, documentaries such as Influx (distributed by Netflix), and docuseries such as Red Zones (aired on Sky Italia): an evening that promises laughter, reflection and discovery. During the talk at the Institute, Vullo’s latest audiovisual project, dedicated to the promotion of Italy abroad through sport, produced for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the title ComunichiAMO lo sport italiano, will also be discussed.
A final event will be held on April 11 with a workshop exclusively for Italian students at ISPA, International Study Preparatory Academy.
