From March 7 to May 5, 2024, the exhibition “Fortunato Depero. From Avant-Garde Art to a New Advertising” will be open, marking the formal inauguration of the Italian Cultural Institute of Miami.

The exhibition takes visitors through works created from the early 1920s to the late 1930s, the latter years spent by the artist in New York City.

Among the displayed artistic, graphic, and bibliographic materials is the iconic painting with unmistakably Futurist features titled Il motociclista (solid in speed), originally created for advertising purposes, in a painted version, for the Bianchi motorcycle brand.

Curated by Eduardo De Maio and Laura Mattioli, the exhibition also presents one of the first modern artist books in the history of graphic design, the famous 1927 “bolted book” titled Depero Futurista.

The presence of original drawings (on loan from the Campari Gallery) and vintage posters (on loan from the Merrill C. Berman Collection) recalls the collaboration between Campari and the Futurist Depero from 1926 to 1936, during which the artist designed the iconic and timeless conical bottle for Campari Soda.
