The Italian Cultural Institute in Miami, in collaboration with the Miami Short Film Festival, is pleased to present the ninth edition of Fare Cinema, the initiative dedicated to promoting the Italian film industry worldwide, coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 9, at O Cinema South Beach for an evening entirely devoted to contemporary Italian short films.

Featured will be four short films nominated for the 2026 David di Donatello Awards in the Best Short Film category—works distinguished by their cinematic quality, originality of vision, and ability to explore, with depth and sensitivity, the challenges, emotions, and transformations of our time.

The selected finalists testify to the talent, creativity, and professionalism of a new generation of Italian filmmakers.

  • Astronaut, directed by Giorgio Giampà, tells the story of Audely, a 39-year-old lumberjack working in the Guatemalan jungle. Her eleven-year-old daughter, Carol, dreams of entering that same forest and building a future based on respect and equality.
  • Hello Warsaw, directed by Diletta Di Nicolantonio, follows Diana, who returns to the suburbs of Warsaw after being hospitalized for an eating disorder. When she receives an invitation to audition for a lingerie advertising campaign, she accepts, uncertain whether she wants to start over or disappear.
  • Family Feast, directed by Nadir Taji, portrays a festive day in the life of a Moroccan family. The serenity of the occasion is suddenly shattered by a shocking event, forcing the adults to make a difficult choice: preserve family unity or confront an uncomfortable truth.
  • Extra Time, directed by Matteo Memè, tells the story of Claudio, who asks his son Mattia for a ride on his scooter to what he describes as “a friend’s house”. When Mattia discovers his father’s true destination, he does everything he can to mend a relationship that has been strained for years.

Following the screening, the director of Extra Time will take part in a Q&A session with the audience. Matteo Memè was born in Rome in 1997 and graduated in Film Studies from Roma Tre University. He previously directed two short films, Il nido di vespe and Un-Conscious, as well as a social awareness spot and a fashion commercial.
