On the occasion of the 9th edition of the Italian Research Day in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute of Miami is hosting, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM at its Coral Gables location, a screening of the documentary Federico Faggin – The Man Who Saw the Future.
Established in 2018 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Ministry of University and Research and the Ministry of Health, the Italian Research Day is one of the main events dedicated to highlighting the contribution of Italian scholars across various fields of international research, as well as promoting the dissemination of the results of their work. It also represents an important opportunity to support the internationalization of Italy’s scientific system, foster collaboration in the field of innovation, and strengthen Italy’s role in scientific diplomacy.
Within this context comes the documentary dedicated to Federico Faggin, an Italian physicist who revolutionized the world with the invention of the microprocessor. Thanks to the use of silicon, this innovation made it possible to miniaturize billions of devices, ushering in the digital age and contributing to the birth of Silicon Valley, where Faggin has worked since 1968. His genius also led to the co-invention of the touchpad and touchscreen, technologies that are now fundamental to everyday life.
Through interviews and archival footage, Federico Faggin – The Man Who Saw the Future tells not only the scientific journey of its protagonist, but also his inner quest, highlighting how his vision successfully brought together science, technology, and consciousness into a single, powerful insight.
The distribution of the film is curated by actress and cultural communicator Patrizia Schiavo, who will introduce the screening. The documentary is produced by Zeta Group, Rai Doc, and RSI. The event will also feature an exclusive video greeting to the audience from Federico Faggin himself, as well as from Marcello Foa, director and one of the film’s authors, who will share behind-the-scenes insights and further reflections on the work.
