In 2026 we mark the 100th anniversary of Turandot, the final, unfinished masterpiece by Giacomo Puccini, later completed by Franco Alfano, which continues to captivate audiences around the world with the modernity of its musical language and the depth of its characters.
Composed during the last years of Puccini’s life and set in a legendary, fairy-tale Beijing, Turandot is an opera distinguished by its powerful visual impact, majestic choruses, and intense emotional elements—beginning with the famous Nessun dorma.
To mark this anniversary, the Consulate General and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Miami collaborate on the staging of the opera in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, in a production by the Florida Grand Opera. The premiere is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 (Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 7:00 p.m.). Additional performances in Miami (Arsht Center, March 8 and 10) will be followed by two performances in Fort Lauderdale (Broward Center for the Performing Arts, March 26 and 28).
In the leading roles, Roberto Alagna (the celebrated Italian – French tenor, in the role of Calaf) and Aleksandra Kurzak (Turandot) will perform on March 7 and 10. On the other dates, the roles will be performed by Dominick Valdés Chenes and Jennifer Rowley.
