Italian sports day in the world. Careers in sport. Stories of Italian champions in Miami

INVITO PNG SMALL

On Wednesday, October 1st at 6:30 p.m., at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute in Coral Gables, the second “Italian Sport Day in the World” will be celebrated.

At the heart of the evening will be two great Italian champions, admired by sports enthusiasts around the globe: Danilo Gallinari, Italian NBA star from 2008 to 2024, with a long career spanning Europe and the United States (Olimpia Milano, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, to name just a few), more than 850 games played in the American league, and a key role in the Italian national team; and Alex Giorgetti, water polo world champion in 2011 and Olympic silver medalist in 2012 with the “Settebello” national team, whose career included winning titles with Pro Recco, playing in top European leagues, and standing out as a forward of remarkable talent and determination.

This will be a unique opportunity to hear the testimonies of the two champions, interviewed by journalist Erica Cunsolo – and to understand their approach to sport, life, and sacrifice, while reflecting together on how, in contemporary society, a champion’s career can teach values such as merit, inclusion, discipline, and loyalty.

The evening also serves as a preview of two major international sporting events to be held in Italy in 2026: the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. The former will be a “widespread Olympics” that will highlight different regions and serve as the centerpiece of an international promotional campaign. The Taranto Games will further strengthen Italy’s role as a sporting and cultural hub at the heart of the Mediterranean.
