Let’s discover the “Piper Generation” through the screening of Corrado Rizza’s docufilm: the story of a generation that witnessed the birth of the legendary Roman club.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Miami hosts a screening of the film Piper Generation. Beat, Shake & Pop Art in the Sixties (2022). This work takes us on a journey of discovery of the young Romans who in 1965 witnessed the birth of the historic Piper, a club that symbolized an era of great cultural and social changes, and that recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Through exclusive testimonies of the protagonists who wrote the history of this historic space, the docufilm immerses us in the unique atmosphere of those years. Completing the story is vintage footage from Istituto Luce, capturing historic moments with icons such as Patty Pravo, Caterina Caselli, Renato Zero, Mina and Totò performing on the Piper stage.
After the screening, a conversation follows with author and director Corrado Rizza, accompanied by journalist and TV host Maria Giovanna Elmi (narrator of the film). Together they retrace the years of the economic boom of the 1960s, a revolutionary period for Italian music, which at the same time marks profound changes in habits and traditions, bringing the two sides of the ocean closer, thanks to the arrival of the English beat and American rock and roll.
The evening ends with a DJ set by Corrado Rizza, an ideal opportunity for a musical journey back to the beat and pop art atmospheres of the Piper Club.
